A Cleanse May Be In Order

Fox-32-312-Beauty

Hope everyone had a great Memorial Day. We had family in town, which always means lots of good meals. I think I might be starting this summer off with a mini-detox or cleanse. An indulgent few days has me fretting at the thought of shorts and swimsuits. I’m not sure if I feel like going the juice route, but I’m thinking I should eliminate sugar, salt, dairy, caffeine and alcohol for at least a week. Sounds so boring, doesn’t it? What do you think?

Yesterday, in between a carb-filled breakfast (yum!) and our Memorial Day picnic (albeit an indoors one), I stopped by FOX 32 studios to talk skincare. Specifically, tips to consider in your 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s and beyond. The unofficial theme of the segment? SPF! Especially in your 20s. Get it started, guys!

Awww this came out great, you look fabulous on tv.. and its always funny hearing someone’s voice for the first time! Congrats.

I’m on week 2 of the paleo diet, and we’re treating the first 3 weeks as a detox since you’re cutting out quite a lot of stuff (sugars, white carbs, alcohol…errrr mostly). I read a $5 book on amazon kindle and its been great due to the nice weather and being able to grill most of the dinners. would be happy to send you more info

Thanks, JQ! It’s even weird for me to hear my own voice on TV:)

I’ve heard a lot about Paleo. Are you doing it with your husband? That makes it so much easier. I’m going to start slow and just do some light elimination during the week. No beer/wine until Friday, lol!

I too feel like I am in need of a cleanse after so many eats this weekend! I prefer to stick to “clean eating” routines for a few weeks versus juice cleanses. Clean eating means no caffeine, no sugar, no alcohol, no dairy, no gluten, and no processed foods at all (you can eat some store bought things like lara bars if you know exactly what all of the ingredients are and I would say, less than 5).

It sounds rough but only the first few days are bad! I usually prefer to start on a weekend so I am not super grumpy at work 🙂 It’s also a lot easier than it sounds. You can pretty much eat all the veggies you want, lots of grains (brown rice, quinoa, barley), fruit is good too but try to stick to berries versus high sugar fruits like oranges or bananas. It’s the best if you can hang in there for at least 2 weeks and then slowly bring things back in the 3rd week. Or go for the full three if you want! The hardest part I think is really having to plan our what you are going to eat. Other good things to include in your diet during this “cleanse” is fresh juice (if you have a juicer or easy access) and Kombucha to get some probiotics in there.

I don’t really have a “plan” I follow but Whole Living Magazine has some AWESOME recipes and a guide for a 28 day “challenge”. I have tried so many of these recipes and they are all awesome! http://www.wholeliving.com/152870/2012-whole-living-action-plan#152219 Let me know how it goes!

Megan, you ROCK! Thanks for sharing this. I am going to spend this weekend mapping out a semi-plan and researching recipes. Alcohol is the toughest to give up….it’s Shandy Season! But I think I can do it. What is your fav Kombucha flavor? I am slightly put off at the floaties, so haven’t tried yet (I know!)

You are so very welcome! I can even send you some of my favorite “cleanse approved” recipes 🙂

As for Kombucha, I love the GT’s brand (most popular for sure) and I love their Gingerberry, Gingerade, Trilogy and Cranberry flavors. I used to be so weirded out about the floaties too but now I am obsessed. It’s rough too since it’s so expensive! Just DO NOT shake or jostle it around, whatever you do!

You did excellent Laurie! Great information – I laughed at the ring finger tip – my mother told me that and she would always say don’t tug at your eyes you will get crow’s feet. So much more frightening sounding than getting fine lines around your eyes! Keep up the terrific work – I’m waiting for you to have a regular segment! 🙂

Aw, Laurie! You are so, so cute! Love your laugh, and you are super knowledgable about skin care! YAY! I just turned 33 last week and I am about to use up the last of my current night moisturizer. I really want something that’s got a little more oomph as far as skin healthy ingredients and your news segment was a big help. Any other suggestions for me? You’ve already steered me right with eye cream. I love the ED4OLO Eye Balm! Congrats on being on TV! You did great! 🙂

Ahh, you’re the best, Kristen! Thank you for the sweet comments. I’m totally obsessed with skin care lately. If you love the Eye Balm so much, you should totally try the Vitamin C serum. I use it every night. So moisturizing and plant active ingredients! I also really like the m-60 line. It’s like plant meets science and the formulas are great anti-agers.

fabulous job on tv! i saw in the comments that this was your first time, but you sound like a pro to me! i love that you worked with both a male and female anchor — the guy’s eyes got so big at the final price tag! lol. great job and hope to see more clips like this!

as for detox … ugh … i’m in that mode too. i’m just paring down my meals to be more simplistic, veggic-centric and cutting a bit of red meat, dairy and sugar. that said, i had a cookie today because it’s that time of the month and it was in my coworkers’ best interest that i not be deprived this week 😉 xoxo

Thanks, Kimberly!! I so appreciate the nice note:) Kori (the male anchor) was hilarious! We had a good giggle after the segment:) I’m slowly building towards a detox…had a glass of wine the other night and a beer yesterday and tons of coffee all week. Work in progress!
